A storage building can really be worth adding onto your property if you have the space. There are many different types of shed kits, so no matter what you are looking for, whether it’s a metal building kit or garden shed kit, you’re sure to find something that fits your space, your style and your budget.

I’ve found one of the easiest ways to get a storage building or garden two story sheds built is to use a storage shed kit. This is especially true if your power tool options are limited or you simply do not want to be bothered possibly making several trips to the home improvement store, measuring and cutting. Most kits are already pre-cut and pre-drilled making assembly a relatively easy project that just about anyone can do.

The size of your shed kit will depend on what you want to use it for, what and how much you want to store in it, future purchases and the amount of space you have to locate the finished shed. Look for a shed or building kit that is well made, sturdy and practical. A home improvement store is a good place to start. Also, the internet is loaded with sites just dying to sell a kit to you. If you go this route, which may be less expensive, pay close attention to the materials used, shipping costs (if any) and the warranty. Make sure you understand their return policy.

Storage build and shed kits come in several different materials each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Metal storage buildings are very sturdy and practical. Because it’s made of metal there probably isn’t a lot of room for customization, but the building should hold up well over the years.

Resin storage buildings are another option. These buildings are pretty durable, affordable, will not rust and are maintenance free. Resin buildings usually have metal reinforced support so it’s a little like an Erector set on steroids. Like metal building kits, there is not a lot of customization or personalization you can do. The styles of a lot of kits can tend to be bland (my opinion).

Most garden sheds are still made of wood because it is less expensive and can be easily customized. The downside, of course, is that a wood shed will require some maintenance down the road. Like all kits, wood, steel, resin or vinyl, everything is pre-cut, nothing to saw – easy to assemble with hammer, screwdriver, tape measure and level. You’ll need at least 2 x 4 construction for demanding snow and wind loads. Doors are generally pre-assembled and pre-hung. Some feature a steel stiffener to resist warping. Steel doors require painting, but that allows you to add a splash of color to the unit.

Ever think of a two story shed? A two story building would be a great choice if you’re in the market for a new garden building. Two story storage buildings are available in a range of sizes and styles. You can find them as outdoor storage buildings, garden buildings as well as two story wood buildings. With an extra floor, you will have plenty of space to organize and store a lot of different things.

As you can see, there are a lot of considerations in choosing the right garden shed kit for your home. Take a little time up-front to look at designs, get some ideas and figure how much you want to spend. There are pros and cons to all designs and kits, but one thing is for sure: there is a shed kit that’s just right for you.
